World Cups Psychic Octopus Paul Dead At 2

It’s a sad day in the international soccer community and beyond as Paul the Octopus has died.

Staff at his aquarium in Germany were devastated to learn that the eight-armed oracle who had correctly predicted the outcome of eight World Cup matches this year, had passed away. He died of natural causes.

ABC News reports that during the World Cup in South Africa, TV channel around the world would air Paul’s forecasts live, forecasts that confounded mathematicians seeing as there is a one in 256 chance that he would get all eight predictions right.

Soccer fans need not fret though, as aquarium staff has told the media that they have Paul II on standby, ready to predict winners of the soccer matches of the future.
