“American Idol” is giving back in a big way following one of the most devastating earthquakes in recorded history.

Recognizing the show’s massive reach around the world, producers of “Idol” have decided to donate a portion of iTunes sales to the American Red Cross and their relief efforts in Japan. On Wednesday’s performance show, judges Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson joined Ryan on stage in the cold open to announce the news.

Jackson also let viewers know that during tomorrow night’s results show, they would also offer a way to donate via text message.
