A range of topics were covered Tuesday night in Ryan’s interview on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” including the future of “American Idol,” how he discovered the Kardashian family, and one of his first TV jobs.

In the second segment of the interview, Jay set Ryan up for a big announcement about his girlfriend Julianne Hough.

“I’m a little nervous about this,” Ryan told Jay. “I can tell you that I’m officially coming back to host ‘American Idol‘ next year and I think it’s time the world knows.”

Always the master at skirting around a question, Ryan continued to talk about the future of “Idol,” and if Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson would return next season.

“I hope so,” said Ryan of the new judging panel. “I think they’ve done a fantastic job.”
