Sara Bareilles & Sugarland Tweet About Stage Collapse At Indiana State Fair [VIDEO]
At the Indiana State Fair in Indianapolis, high winds, estimated at 60 MPH caused the stage to collapse, killing five people and injuring dozens more. Fans were anxiously waiting for Sugarland to perform when the stage began to sway, ultimately leading to the horrific collapse. Rather than running away from the stage in fear, many fans rushed to the stage after it collapsed to attend to those who were injured, proving that in a time of desperate need, people will come together, rather than fall apart.

On Sunday, a memorial was held at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, remembering those who were killed. Audience members honored those who had fallen with a moment of silence, and then came together to sing ‘Amazing Grace’.

Videos shows the blue canvas top fraying and flapping just seconds before the steel scaffolding gave way, sending a heavy bank of stage lights and metal onto fans closest to the outdoor stage. Gov. Mitch Daniels described the stage collapse as a ‘freakish accident’.
Many stars have taken to Twitter to express their sympathy to fans about this horrible event, including Sugarland and Sara Bareilles.

Fortunately we are all safe, but a tragic stage accident has injured some folks in indiana. Our prayers are with them and their families.
Many reports state that the weather changed ‘in a matter of seconds’ and according to concertgoer Allison Hoehn, “Many attendees rushed to those trapped after the stage crumbled. The storm came on so fast and the stage just snapped like a toothpick.”
The stage collapse at the Indiana State Fair was a tragic event, but in this time of darkness, it proves that as human’s, we will come together in desperate times to help those in need.
