The season premiere of ‘American Idol‘ is quickly approaching, and to commemorate the impending audition process we decided to take a look back at some of the most popular celebrities to reach stardom after auditioning ‘American Idol.’

Amber Riley auditioned for “idol” when she was 17. After not even making it past the producers, she found fame on “Glee” as the sassy Mercedes Jones. One of her biggest performances on “Glee” was “And I’m Telling you,” which was also performed by Jennifer Hudson (season three) and LaKisha Jones (season six). Amber Riley still is still thankful for “Idol” and happy that she still managed to make it into the Fox Network.

Despite auditioning twice and never making it to the preliminary rounds, Hillary Scott became huge as the lead singer of country band Lady Antebellum. The band recently won 5 Grammy awards. I don’t think she’s sulking too much anymore about not making it.

Colbie Caillat also tried out for “Idol” twice and even flubbed her own song that is now famously known as “bubbly” and an international hit. She admits to nerves getting the best of her and not looking her best either, which could have swayed the judges decisions.
Robyn Troup

Although not quite hitting superstardom just yet keep a look out for Robyn Troup. This past season she was cut during the dreaded “Hollywood week,” Then quickly bounced back weeks before her rejected episode airing to find herself on stage with Justin Timberlake and T.I. at the Grammy’s none the less. Fate intervened when she won the “My Grammy Moment” talent search hosted by Yahoo which catapulted her onto stage and onto the beginning of her professional music career. Now on to bigger better things, she recorded with guitar legend Santana and is set to debut an album under Taylor Hicks and David Cook‘s producer Matt Serletic’s label Emblem Music Group. Those “Idol” people sure do stick together.
