It’s been a rough year for Katy Perry’s love life, but her music career is still booming. A special edition of her last album called Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection featuring her newest single “Part of Me” was released today. Like most of Katy’s work, it’s got a great dance beat, but the words and the tone are definitely darker than “California Gurls” or “Teenage Dream.”

“This is the part of me that you’re never gonna ever take away from me/… You’re not gonna break my soul” sings the pop queen. The song was actually penned back in 2010 when Katy was putting together the original Teenage Dream, but the lyrics have been updated to aim the song towards her ex-husband, Russell Brand. The old lyrics, “you can keep the dog for me / I never liked him anyway” have been changed to: “you can keep the diamond ring / it don’t mean nothing anyway.” That’s a pretty direct hit, but we can’t fault her– this is a total break-up anthem!
