Justin Bieber might have record-breaking album sales, but now he’s also got a Guinness World Record thanks to his fans! On March 1st, the Biebs’ 18th birthday, thousands of fans took to a Facebook page to chime in and help set the record for most social media messages in 24 hours.

Although the official tally isn’t in yet, about halfway through the day fans had hit 214,900 messages, and by 7:27 PM ET the total was around 292,069. Participants were supposed to retweet the following message, first tweeted out by a special account just for the occasion. They could also post this message to the Facebook wall of the event.

The World Record folks are still working out the details, but the current record-holder, Beat Cancer Everywhere, only gained 209,771 mentions in 2009 which helped them raise $70,000 for cancer research. With his 17.8 million Twitter followers, it’s really no surprise that Bieber was able to surpass that number.
