‘Shahs of Sunset’ Star Feared Being Gay Would Lead To Life of Lies, Suicide [VIDEO]
Reza Farahan from “Shahs of Sunset” has made a habit of uploading YouTube rants about everything from personal hygiene to Ryan Gosling, but his latest video cracks open a more serious topic. As part of the “It Gets Better” campaign, the openly-gay Persian explains how difficult it was to be young and homosexual, but how happy he is that he stayed alive to see things improve.
When Farahan was young and realize he liked boys, he thought “God made a mistake” which led Reza to like “men instead of women, which was wrong!” But one day he accidentally got his hands on a magazine that had gay men in it, which proved to Reza that there were other people in the world that felt the way he did.
“The only reason I wanted to be on a reality show was to have an impact on someone’s life,” said Farahan looking deep into the camera. “Someone from the Middle East who’s at home thinking, ‘no Middle-Easterners can live out loud and be themselves.’ That’s not true: look at me.”
Watch the video below and hear about how Reza came out to his mother. The “Shahs of Sunset” season finale airs this Sunday at 10/9c on Bravo.
