Kelly Clarkson called in to “On Air with Ryan Seacrest“ Monday morning to chat about this season of “American Idol,” her new show “Duets,” and to announce that she will be going on tour with The Fray. The band’s front man, Isaac Slade, also joined us on the phone for the announcement.

How Did Kelly & The Fray End Up On The Same Bill?
“We were kind of doing a radio circuit together and we did a couple together. We got to sing a Christmas song together on stage and we just sounded really good together, so I was like: ‘Man, we should tour or something.’” Kelly continues, “If you want to see us both together we’re going to maybe sing together in the show as well. It will be cool.”

On This Season’s “American Idol” Contestants:
“I came home just last night for the night…and my neighbor stopped me in the elevator and was like: “Have you seen the contestants?” They were flipping out about the contestants this year,” Kelly tells us. “I have it on my TV, but I haven’t watched anything.”

On Her New Show “Duets”:
“We’ve actually started taping some stuff for it. I’m actually really excited. I picked one of my duet partners, he’s super awesome. It starts up May 24th, so it will be cool. I love it because I get to perform with them each week. We’ll see which one of my duet partners kind of out does the other. The shows brand new, so I’m kind of excited to see how evolves,” she says.
