Tay Zonday of ‘Chocolate Rain’ Fame Takes ‘Call Me Maybe’ an Octave Lower [VIDEO]

Tay Zonday, the brillant vocalist behind “Chocolate Rain,” a video that caught the attention of 80 million people on YouTube in 2007 has captivated audiences again with a cover of  Carly Rae Jepsen’s single “Call Me Maybe.”

The Minnesota born YouTuber went from being a graduate student to viral sensation with the release of his hypnotic song, “Chocolate Rain.” Gaining attention on national television and commercials, Zonday won a YouTube Award in 2008, and saw this achievement as the door of opportunity, telling Associated Press; “It’s the new Emmys. It’s the next Oscars. The next People’s Choice Awards. It’ll be interesting to see what happens in five years, 10 years [from now].”

Time has passed and his creativity has grown. Known for his deep baritone singing voice, the YouTube celeb stays true to Carly’s original lyrics in this cover. But Tay adds his signature touch, explaining to audiences in a filmed caption, “I sang this as low as I could, just for fun.”
