The true value of art comes in its versatility and the ability of the artist to infuse elements of personal perspective. Graphic design student Alan Clarke did just that in his 2009 Olympic poster proposals.

A 2009 graduate from University College Falmouth in Cornwall, UK, pitched these artistic athletic pieces hoping to have his art featured in the 2012 Olympic campaign. Unfortunately Clarke’s art wasn’t used to promote the upcoming games, but his interesting take on movement is enough to spark curiosity in the thought behind his work.

“My thinking behind these posters was to convey the movement and energy of the games, in a simple yet abstract way,” Clarke said of his art.

“The designs focused on the movement and speed of the athletes’ equipment,” according to the artist—and it seems he captured just that.

From the ricochet of a tennis ball, to the ripple effect of the perfect dive, Alan Clarke’s athletic interpretation is creative and inventive.
