Who would’ve thought that kids with such small frames could produce such loud and commanding sounds? In honor of July 4th, we’re dishing out the 6 best kids who’ve got the chops to make it big, singing The Star Spangled Banner.
Believe it or not, these 5 girls are not sisters…they’re friends! They harmonize perfectly together as they perform on the Texas Tech basketball court in February of 2008. Can you imagine what they sound like now?
Athena Creese is killing it at just 8-years-old! She made the audience of the world famous Staples Center quiet to a murmur when she opened her mouth and kicked off the 2009 LA Lakers game that night. Now, Athena is 11 and still has an incredible voice showcased on her YouTube account.
8-year-old Elizabeth Hughes gives a stellar rendition of the song, right until the mic cuts out at the end. In a triumphant turn of events, the girl gets the help of the entire Scope Arena as they sing along with her until the end.
This 8-year-old boy looks like a little man dressed in a dashing suit and poised like a pro as he belts out the tune for a crowded arena. Known as Baby J, he performed the piece to a joyous crowd at the Minnesota Lynx game in 2009.
If this 12-year-old diva looks familiar, it’s because she was on the hit show, “America’s Got Talent” in 2010. In this video, Nina Sophia Mojares performs at Madison Square Garden—one of her 6+ performances there—during a March 2011 Knicks vs. Celtics game. Skip to 1:35 to hear the sweet sounds.
This 9-year-old girl is an inspiration to us all. Skip to :15 to hear Lily Anderson, a cancer patient, perform the tune at an Atlanta Braves game last year for an event called, “Rally Night.” Lily was diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma Cancer in 2009. Despite two years of chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery, she gave a performance that Braves pitcher Peter Moylan said, “produced the longest standing ovation he’s ever seen.”
Here’s another 9-year-old powerhouse that you need to watch. Courtney “Coco” Jones is a native of Nashville who performed her rendition of the National Anthem in 2009 at a St. Louis Rams football game. Skip to :50 to hear this mature sound come out of the young girl.
