Portia de Rossi Chats About Her Lily Munster Look in ‘Mockingbird Lane’
Portia de Rossi called in to “On Air with Ryan Seacrest” to chat about playing Lily Munster in “Mockingbird Lane,” a reimagined version of the classic 1960s comedy “The Munsters.”
On Sporting Long Dark Lily Munster Locks:
“I’ve always, my whole life wanted to have short, like really, really short hair and for whatever reason, probably because my mother told me I would be ugly without long hair and other terrible things. I never had the guts to cut it off. So, finally I cut it off and then every single project I’ve done since then have been in a wig. So, ‘The Munsters’ Lily Munster is kind of known for her long dark hair. The wig is so thick and long. But it’s kind of fun actually, to be a brunette and have this kind of hair.”
On Mockingbird Lane:
“I have never seen anything like this in TV before. It’s so hard to describe, because I feel like saying it’s kind of like a ‘Harry Potter‘ movie. I mean, that’s kind of the brilliance of Bryan Singer, who did ‘Usual Suspects‘ and ‘X-Men.’ He’s brought something to TV that I think we’ve never seen before,” she tells us.
Portia continues, “It’s based on the original show ‘The Munsters,’ but it is a drama. So, it’s a little bit darker, a little bit creepier, we do kill people, but nicely and we have a good time doing it. It’s still in the spirit of the original, because it is essentially about family and parenting more than anything. The kid who’s a little different than the other kids and how do you successfully raise a werewolf. That’s our dilemma through the series.”
“Mockingbird Lane” airs tonight at 8/7c on NBC
