Phil Pritchard chats about what duties entail as Keeper of the Cup, how the Cup travels, and where it has been!

Keeper of the coveted Stanley Cup, Phil Pritchard called in to “On Air with Ryan Seacrest” on Thursday to chat about what his duties entail as Keeper of the Cup, how the Cup travels, and where it has been!

What Does The Keeper Of The Cup Do?
First off Phil tells us that he wasn’t good enough to play hockey, then says: “Our duties are hanging out with the Cup and looking after it from a public relations end, a transportation end, a security end.” With such a high risk gig does Phil have time for anything else? “I got married, I got 3 kids at home and we’re on the road a bunch so you miss them a ton, but getting to hang out with the Stanley Cup champions it’s pretty good for work…We only hang out with the winners, which is kind of neat.”

15 Facts You Didn’t Know About the L.A. Kings Postseason

Which King Is Most Excited About The Cup?
“I’m going to say Captain Dustin Brown, Anže Kopitar, And Jonathan Quick, the goalie. All three of them are a huge part of that team, but the excitement there, they’re little kids when they win it. All the guys are like that,” Phil says. “The guys have so much respect for the cup…they want to hang out with it.”

[soundcloud id='65603759']

The Cup Gets Around!
The Stanley Cup may stand 3 feet tall and weigh 34 pounds, but this won’t stop the players from celebrating with it all over town. “The guys get to take it home for a day throughout the summer.” And in the past it has even ended up in a few swimming pools! “Mario Lemieux’s twice, Dominik Hašek’s once,” Phil tells us. And where is the Cup now? “We’re at the practice facility, we’re getting staff photos, and then we’re getting ready for the parade.”

8 Shocking Adventures with the Stanley Cup Trophy

Does It Travel On An Airplane?
Phil tells us: “It does, yes.” However it does not get it’s own seat. He says: “We store it in special services underneath so we actually can get some sleep time as we’re flying from place to place.”

After 45 years, Los Angeles Kings fans continue to celebrate as much deserved Hockey champions.

Go Kings Go! Go Kings Go!

These are the words Los Angeles Kings fans continued to chant Monday night after the team pulled out an impressive win against the New Jersey Devils making them National Champions for the very first time in team history.

7. After the Parade, the Staples Center will host a Kings rally scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Tickets are free but must be reserved through Ticketmaster beginning at 6 p.m. today.
9. Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick stopped 125 of 132 shots against him in the final six games. We’d say he is well deserving of the MVP title.

Sister Wins Tickets To Kings Game For Her Superfan Brother [PHOTO]

10. The last parade Los Angeles hosted was for the Lakers’ 2010 championship win.
11. 1 in every 4 Los Angeles residents who own a TV watched the Kings game Monday.
12. Believe it or not, more Americans watched Gordon Ramsey and his reality show Monday night on FOX than the Stanley Cup on NBC.

13. Fans cheered at Dodger Stadium when the final moments of the Hockey game were shown on the big screen during the baseball game.
14. Dustin Brown, Anze Kopitar, and Jeff Carter scored the most goals during the playoff season with 8 goals each.
15. The Kings eliminated the number 1, 2, and 3 seeds in the West before beating the Devils in the finals. It’s an impressive feat for a team not favored to go very far in the postseason.

If the Stanley Cup could talk, boy would it have some stories. L.A. Kings players... you have been warned.

It’s traveled to a sauna, mountain, and even underneath a hockey player’s swimming pool. It’s been used to hold an ice cream sundae, baby, and as expected, plenty of booze. This object is none other than the highly sought after Stanley Cup trophy, awarded to the NHL championship team.

Behold The Cutest L.A. Kings Hockey Fan [PHOTOS]

Every player of the Los Angeles Kings will receive the top prize later this week after the championship parade to be held Thursday near the Staples Center. Before each player is allowed 24 hours with the precious object, they might be surprised to learn of the cup’s past experiences. Here’s 8 surprising adventures the mighty trophy has gone through over the years. Prepare yourself, some situations are a little icey.

1. Bathroom Break:
Following Detroit’s victory in 1998, teammate Kris Draper put his daughter in the cup thinking it was a cute idea. That all changed once the baby decided to use the trophy as a toilet. That’s not the sweet smell of victory.

2. Feast For Another Champion:
Members of the 1994 New York Rangers took the cup to Belmont Park to feed another champion. The team served the Kentucky Derby winning horse with food straight from the trophy.

NBC To Live-Stream Every Minute of All 32 Olympic Sports

3. Dog’s New Food Dish:
Hockey star Clark Gillies filled the cup with dog food for his precious pooch. A man’s best friend has to eat, but wouldn’t a regular dog bowl be good enough?

4. A Holy Baptism:
In 1996, Sylvain Lefebvre celebrated his team’s win by having his daughter baptized in the cup. Maybe the baby girl will be blessed with amazing hockey skills?

5. Hollywood Treatment:
During his 24-hour time span, Anaheim Ducks star Luc Robitaille gave his trophy the Hollywood treatment, literally. The Stanley Cup was able to ride on a Universal Studios Hollywood attraction and later stand on a Rose Parade float.

Funniest Olympic Memes From The Past [PHOTOS]

6. Climbing Mountains:
New Jersey Devils defenceman Scott Niedermayer took a helicopter ride to the top of a mountain near his home in Cranbrook, B.C. He was able to hoist the cup 9,000 feet high.

7. Sauna Stop:
We know the trophy can handle the ice and cold temperatures. But what about temperatures above 200 degrees? Teemu Selanne from the Anaheim Ducks traveled to his native country of Finland with the cup, which happened to include a stop at the neighborhood sauna.

8. Swimming With The Cup:
The cup can handle hot and cold temperatures as well as…water! Pittsburgh Penguins captain Mario Lemieux somehow went swimming with the trophy in 1991. League officials didn’t think that idea was funny either.

Olympians Grace The Cover of Vogue [PHOTOS]

To many people’s surprise, the 3-foot-tall trophy doesn’t travel with just one excited hockey player. It must be accompanied by a so-called “keeper of the cup.” This person keeps watch over the trophy to make sure it’s not stolen or damaged. Often times, however, the hockey players are faster than the “keeper” making it pretty common for crazy stuff to still go down.

We hope someone cleaned, repaired, and maybe disinfected the trophy for the next round of champions. Be careful Kings! That trophy has some history.

History was made last night as the Los Angeles Kings beat the New Jersey Devils 6-1 and brought home the coveted Stanley Cup. Faithful fans have been invested in the team, some for their entire adult lives, and it’s possible to get very emotional.

Find out how much fun one of Ryan's lucky listeners had at Game 4 of the NHL finals.

After playing and winning “Name That King” Wednesday morning on Ryan Seacrest’s morning radio show, listener Mary Sanchez knew exactly where her prize of Game 4 Stanley Cup playoff tickets should go to. The biggest L.A. Kings fan she knew was her bro Rich Sanchez whose license plate reads “Kings No 1.″

Despite the New Jersey Devils obtaining their first win of the series with a score of 3-1, Rich told Ryan he witnessed an amazing night of hockey. Read about his experience Wednesday night below and don’t forget Game 5 airs Saturday night at 8 p.m. EST on NBC.

Dear Ryan,
Here’s some pics from game 4 at the KIIS fm booth, and inside Staples Center. I got you guys a chocolate dobash cake from Kings Hawaiian (my workplace) that read “Thank you KIIS fm Go Kings!”, and my brother had a sign printed which reads at the bottom “Thanks Mary, KIIS fm, and Barry’s tickets for the seats”. Even though the Kings lost I still had an amazing experience! A memory that will last a lifetime. We will still win this championship. If you need a reporter to represent KIIS fm at the next game, then your more than welcome to send me, your #1 LA Kings fan, again.
Forever thankful,
Rich Sanchez

Beckham showed off a new, shorter hairstyle at the LA Kings game on Monday night.

David Beckham showed off a new look at the Los Angeles Kings hockey game Monday night. The soccer stud arrived at the Staples Center with a strange faux hawk haircut, even shorter than his usual style. “It’s a little bit too short, but it’s all right, it will grow back,” Beckham told Ryan this morning On Air.

“So did you look in the mirror and say, ‘Wait, that wasn’t as tight as I wanted it on the sides?’” Ryan asked. “Well when I was having it done it was in a darker room and it looked good at the time…,” Beckham trailed off. (Hey, at least the guy’s being honest…)

Ryan and Ellen, however, seemed to dig his new do. “I’m going to get that app where you can put haircuts on your head before you get them and I’ll see if the undercut does me any justice,” joked Ryan. The application is courtesy of InStyle Magazine and allows users to try on their favorite celebrity styles by uploading a photo and selecting their haircut of choice. What do you think? Could Ryan rock the undercut like Beckham?

Heather wrote: ”As you can see from my picture we are huge Kings fans. This is my son when he was 2. He loves the Kings and hockey. He has been playing hockey since he was 1 1/2. He was ice skating and rollerskating as soon as he could walk. I’d love to be able to take him to a Kings playoff game. Also my husband is a diehard Lakers fan. It would be a dream come true to surprise him with a ticket to the playoff game!”
