How do you think they did on “Love Somebody”?

Lead singer Adam Levine called in to On Air with Ryan Seacrest to chat about the band’s Honda Civic Tour this summer with Kelly Clarkson, which kicks off on August 1 in Maryland Heights, Missouri, and ends at the Hollywood Bowl on October. 6. So what can fans expect from the band?

“Summer tours are different,” Adam explains. “It’s like a barbeque or a cookout, kind of more like a party, so I think the scene of this tour is going to be hip hop … we’re working in some amazing things that I don’t want to talk about.”

Wait, hip hop? Adam clarifies: “For us, what we like to do is [ask] … ‘What’s the vibe of this tour? What are we trying to accomplish on this tour? How’s it going to look? How’s it going to sound? What’s the emphasis going to be? Is it going to be more organic?’ You kind of have to go with a certain idea. The spirit of the summer tour is … you have certain moods that you want to create … so it’s kind of like a constant party.”

Adam added that it may not be “old-school hip hop, but hip hop from a long time ago. We’ll see. It’s going to be very interesting and very awesome I am hoping.”

The tattooed singer also talked about his fourth season as a mentor on The Voice and how he has bonded with new judge Usher.

“I love that guy,” says Adam. “Such a good guy. At first, I wasn’t sure … he’s a cool dude and he seems always very cool. He never really shows his hand, he’s Usher. But then we started hanging a lot and … he’s just a really kind of wonderful guy and we’ve gotten pretty close. It’s been a great season. I love the show.”

After Ellen K. told a story about when Usher appeared on On Air with Ryan Seacrest and he accidentally fell while spinning around in the studio — and then laughed about it — Adam could see it happening that way. “He plays the part of the cool dude, but he’s self-depricating enough to get it that it’s all fun and entertainment. I dig that about him.”

Adam also explained that although there is a friendly competition between The Voice and American Idol, there is no beef … even though some people try to make it seem that way.

“Anytime we do an interview for our show, about The Voice, every journalist tries to get us to talk [bleep] about Idol,” he tells Ryan. “ I’m always like, ‘Dude, shut up. American Idol is like the biggest show ever. Why would we A) compare ourselves to it? And B) it’s like this cultural institution that’s been around for friggin’ ever.’ It makes people feel so dumb for even asking. It’s just silly, right? It’s amazing that they always try to stir the pot with that beef.”

Another thing that Adam and Ryan are on the same page about: their love of their mothers.

What did the singer do to honor his on Mother’s Day?  ”I praised her like the queen she is,” Adam reveals. “Patsy is pretty much the best person ever.”

And whenever he has a problem he wants to talk about with his mom, he says, ”I come to her and I present the situation, get her opinion, and most of the time we’re on the same page … she’s like your natural born producer of life.”

The band is known for covering many artists from Rihanna to Bruno Mars, and this isn’t the first time they’ve done Maroon 5 as they took on their last number one hit “One More Night” here.

Adam who recently tweeted about feeling uneasy turning 34, revealed: “For me my emotional growth is stunted by my job…when you’re in a band it’s like I’m encouraged to sleep till 2pm on days of a show. We travel around the world. We play music. It’s almost kind of like this really fun activity that doesn’t make you feel like an adult so I feel young. I feel I have the emotional development of a 25-year-old.”

Nope!

Adam shared: “That makes me feel like an adult. That makes me feel 34 but being out here running around here like a maniac makes me feel like I’m 12 which is awesome.”
