In a pre-taped special, Robin will host a countdown of the greatest twosomes in television history. The show will feature 30 pairings of couples who have provided plenty of humor, friendship, and love on the small screen. Everyone from Laverne and Shirley, to Homer and Bart Simpson, to Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy will be featured in the show.

Familiar faces will also appear to celebrate the recognizable twosomes including Megan Mullally, Edie Falco, Garry Marshall, Ed Asner, Vanna White, Penn & Teller, and many more. Followers speculated about Roberts’ announcement, expressing concern that after seven years, the beloved host might be leaving GMA. However, this was not the case.

Rather, during the broadcast an emotional Roberts announced a startling diagnosis. Five years after beating breast cancer, she is facing yet another battle, this time with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), a rare blood disorder that affects the bone marrow.

“Now sometimes, treatment for cancer can lead to other serious medical issues, and that’s what I’m facing right now,” Roberts told viewers, surrounded by several of her co-workers, family and friends.

Notably present was former “Good Morning America” co-anchor Diane Sawyer, and Roberts’ older sister, Sally-Ann. Roberts will require a bone marrow transplant in order to combat the disease and remarkably, Sally-Ann is a near-perfect match.

“Doctors tell me that is going to be a tremendous help in me beating this, and to use your phrase George, ‘bottom line,’ I am going to beat this…,” Roberts said, referencing her current co-host George Stephanopoulos, as he sat by her side.

Obama Announces Support for Gay Marriage, Web Reacts

Stephanopoulos shared with viewers that Roberts originally learned of her diagnosis before a major interview with President Barack Obama earlier this spring. Through it all, Roberts never wavered.

She chose only to announce her diagnosis on Monday because later that day she began pre-treatment in preparation of the transplant, and she wanted her viewers to understand what was going on. “Because we’ve often said how our viewers, you are our family, and we want you to hear things from us,” she said.

Already Roberts has received an outpour of support, especially on Twitter. First Lady Michelle Obama tweeted:

In an open letter on the GMA website, Roberts addressed everyone’s concerns saying, “Bottom line: I’ve been living with this diagnosis for awhile and will continue to anchor GMA. I love what I do and the people with whom I do it. Along with my faith, family and friends, all of you at ABC News give me the motivation and energy to face this challenge.”
